What Is a Cohabitation Agreement?

The cohabitation agreement simply means a legalised agreement that is made between couples who have decided to live together without necessarily being married. Both heterosexual and homosexual couples who are willing to cohabit can legalise it by making a cohabitation agreement.
In some cases, couples who have made a cohabitation agreement are treated just like married couples. For instance, when they are figuring out child support or applying for mortgage. Though, it is noticeable that in several areas they are not given the same type of advantages as married couples. Some of these areas are inheritance, pension, and property rights.
The purpose behind making this cohabitation agreement is preventing the possible litigation and unnecessary costs that may take place if the couple ever decide to separate.
